Personal Project
Finding Alice - Motion Poster
“Finding Alice” is a tv show created by the same people who made “The Durrells”. Following the sudden death of her partner Harry, Alice has to figure out how to deal with the mess he left behind, how to support their daughter Charlotte, and how to cope with her own grief. Finding Alice is a drama, but it also injects some dark humour into the story that allows the series to really shine.
With this project, I wanted to focus on how grief is not a linear journey from point A to point B - every single person experiences grief differently. It is never just one feeling, but a huge mix of emotions that can often ping pong back and forth - from crying with despair one minute to howling with laughter the next - and then feeling guilty for laughing at all. To express this, I jump back and forth between emotions that each have their own colour, animating the type according to the feeling. To make the piece feel more personal, I added hand-drawn text elements and textures and animated parts of it at 12 frames per second instead of 24. In the end, all the colours and feelings come together to show how grief is made up of multiple emotions at any point in time.
