Look Again Festival

Poetry Animation

The Look Again Festival is a yearly celebration of art and design that takes place in Aberdeen, Scotland. The city is predominantly known for being the oil and gas center of Europe, but also has a very active art scene.

This poetry animation was created to celebrate the local aberdonian dialect - doric. Local poet Jo Gilbert held a workshop that resulted in a poem called “Dear Aiberdeen”, and the patterns featured in the animation came out of another workshop with London-based designer Morag Myerscough.

Words and visuals then found their way to the design studio I work at, where we combined both into an animated piece. My colleagues designed the type, and I was then responsible for translating everything into 3D space and animating it. The final animation was displayed on a large, 3m high screen at the entrance of Aberdeen’s music hall.
